We have set ourselves the goal of permanently securing existing knowledge about the cultural landscape and making information about cultural landscape elements of the Western Palatinate, such as castles, towers and churches, digitally accessible. To realize this project, we are in charge of the two projects Kuladig and WestpfalzWiki. Both projects serve as an information system for all those who want to find out about the cultural heritage in the landscape. This includes, for example, tourists and citizens interested in their homeland, specialized administrations or educational institutions (especially schools).
The Kuladig has been in operation since 2000 - an online-based information system for the systematic recording of cultural landscape objects developed by the Rhineland Regional Council (North Rhine-Westphalia). Since 2017 the Kuladig has also been available for Rhineland-Palatinate. Together with the Structural and Approval Directorate South and the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region, we have launched the pilot project "Cultural Landscape Palatinate Forest" and have already incorporated numerous significant cultural landscape elements - also outside the Palatinate Forest. To ensure the best possible quality level, all entries are checked by a specialist editorial team before being released.
To ensure that the citizens of the West Palatinate can also easily participate in the digital database of the cultural landscape, we developed the WestpfalzWiki from the beginning of 2018 to complement the more scientific Kuladig. Here, anyone can easily register as an author and enter, add or correct objects themselves. With the help of numerous committed people, the WestpfalzWiki is to grow steadily, so that in the long term a broad picture of our diverse landscape will emerge. Since October 2018, the platform has been available to browse and add to.
As with Kuladig, object descriptions (history, use, special features), their exact spatial location, current and historical photos can be entered into the WestpfalzWiki. In addition, useful information such as family friendliness, parking space availability and barrier-free access can be added.
For all those who do not want to be active online in the Wiki, we offer the possibility to deliver textual material, background information, historical and current photos and helpful sources by mail, fax, e-mail or on foot to the office. The information is processed and then added to the Wiki.
