Healthcare is being confronted with enormous challenges: the support system is faced with increasing economic pressure while at the same time, the demands for health services are constantly increasing. In many rural regions, it is increasingly the case that even basic health care is at risk.

The goal of the initiative is to contribute to an increase in efficiency in the regional health system through networking and improved process flow. The core team of the initiative is made up of the Westpfalz-Klinikum GmbH [West Palatinate Clinic GmbH] (WKK), the Institut für Technologie und Arbeit [Institute for Technology and Work] (ITA) at the TU Kaiserslautern [University of Kaiserslautern] and the Planungsgemeinschaft Westpfalz [West Palatinate Planning Consortium] (PGW).

The initiative has determined four key priorities for its work:

  • The identification of current and future needs in the health sector
  • The coordination of the development and expansion of need-based solutions from the area of the health industry
  • Strategic planning and development of the network
  • Creation and maintenance of the dialogue with state, regional and local politics

Project period: since mid-2011
